Website Design for a Charity in Hertfordshire
We are aircraft nutty here at Webster Internet. So when the deHavilland museum charity contacted us to speak about building them a website for their Hertfordshire aircraft museum, we were utterly delighted.
After having personally visited the musuem a number of times as an enthusiast, Dan had seen first-hand the incredible work that all of the volunteers do in preserving some of the finest examples of British aeronautical engineering through the ages. Having piloted the deHavilland Chipmunk, to be asked to design a website for the organisation that made some of the greatest breakthroughs in aviation history was an absolute honour and so the result had to be a fitting tribute.
We designed a bespoke content-managed website for the deHavilland Aircraft Museum with the goal of representing the key areas served by the charity – increasing visitors, increasing donations and encouraging volunteers. The charity was also going through a process of fundraising for a new hangar while we were building the website.
Once the website was built, staff members who updated the website found that the content management system was extremely simple to use, providing a familiar updating interface. Webster Internet provided a custom user manual describing in detail how to use the website.
The museum was keen to sell products online for the first time, a most exciting venture. We provided a fully comprehensive e-commerce system for the website which handles all sales and elements of stock control. The system allows new products to be added simply and easily, as well as offering such mechanisms as discounts and a full integration with the WorldPay payment gateway.
All pages and products are able to be edited with ease, videos can be added simply and quickly, all images are able to be changed and swapped with nothing more than a few clicks.
The website is fully mobile and tablet compatible involving different layouts being created for different devices. The website is mobile-friendly from the core, utilising new technologies to create different website layouts for different screen sizes. The mobile and tablet layouts do not require switching on, they are part of the site and only become active if a user views the website on a mobile device.
In 2014 the de Havilland Aircraft Museum decided to build a new e-commerce Web site in line with our strategic Marketing objectives. A number of web developers tendered for the project and we chose Dan Webster to undertake the contract-his pragmatic and innovative approach to the brief was impressive. Throughout the design and build process we have been impressed by Dan's professional and creative approach to the task The New Site was launched in early April and we have received our first orders and feedback from site visitors has been encouraging.
